Orbcomm is a mobile satellite service provider offering low-cost, two-way message and data communications globally through national licensees and value-added resellers. The first two satellites were launched in April 1995 and are providing initial commercial two-way communications and position determination services. A constellation of up to 36 satellites is planned to provide customers the ability to send and receive short but vital messages anywhere on Earth at very low cost.
Planned applications include person-to-person global messaging, automotive and recreation communications, including high priority position reporting, industrial asset monitoring, stolen vehicle recovery and two-way Internet e-mail communications using hand-held computers.
